Calane da Silva
Life Story
Raul Alves Calane da Silva(Lourenço Marques, 20 October 1945 – 29 January 2021) was a Mozambican poet, writer and journalist.
Calane da Silva coordinated the Gazeta Artes e Letras of Tempo magazine in 1985, and was head of the editorial of Experimental Television in Mozambique in 1987. He was also a member of the Mozambican Writers Association. He also directed the Centro Cultural Brasil Mozambique in Maputo.
After a few days in the Mozambican capital in January 2021, Calane da Silva died a victim of COVID-19.
He obtained the degree of master in Portuguese Linguistics from the University of Porto, with the dissertation The pedagogy of lexicon: the lexical choices bantus, the neologisms luso-rongas and its stylistic and aesthetic-nationalist function in the works Xigubo and Karingana wa Karingana by José Craveirinha, as well as the degree of doctor in Portuguese Linguistics by the same university with a thesis entitled From lexicon to the possibility of literary isotopic fields.
He was a professor of African Portuguese Language Literature at Maputo University and Director of the Brazilian-Mozambique Cultural Center in Maputo, and was responsible for dynamizing the cultural activities that have been seen in recent years. He was a member of the MIL Advisory Council: Lusophone International Movement.
