Caetano Lobo is a young Goese who emigrates to Mozambique in the 1940s, with the ambition to make fortune. After working for a large agrarian company in Zambézia, he established himself in Quelimane, with the help of the woman and the dowry she brings to him. Prospera, has children and loves the youngest, Aurora. The family moves to Lourenço Marques and continues to enrich. Caetano, Brahman, maintains prejudice, brought from Goa, against the people of castes he considers inferior, particularly the sudras, which leads him to reject the coexistence with another Goesa family, the Xaviers. When Aurora and young Bruno Xavier fall in love, there is the tragedy that marks both families.

The novel is a family saga, which covers four decades of life in Mozambique, a period marked by important external and internal events, such as the Second World War, the independences of African countries, the taking of Goa by India, the liberation struggles in Portuguese colonies, the 25th of April, the independence of Mozambique and the first years that followed it, which were decisive for the lives and choices of the protagonists.

Alvaro Carmo Vaz He is a civil engineer and Professor of Hydrology and Water Resources. This is his third literary work, after "A Quiet Boy" (2019) and "Here Is Opera?" (2021).
