Jorge Ferrão
Born in the village of Iapala, Ribáuè district, Nampula province, Jorge Ferrão is a socio-environmental researcher, having developed part of his academic and professional work in the implementation and management of cross-border parks in Southern Africa, in particular in South Africa, Mozambique, Zimbabwe and Tanzania. He was born on December 23, 1962. He is the son of the nurses Gonçalo António Ferrão and Rabeca Teodoro Ferrão, both deceased. The polyglot is married and father of four children. In January 2015, he was appointed Minister of Education and Human Development. And in November 2016, he was exonerated from office and appointed by the President of the Republic as Rector of Maputo Pedagogical University. On several occasions, Jorge Ferrão was distinguished as Figure of the Year in the province of Nampula. In 2012, he was recognized as Personality of the Year in Mozambique by the Press. It also received international distinctions as leader & Gold Innovative by QC100 and IDB, Paris, 2012. It was recognized by scientific work supporting disadvantaged communities, in particular the massive visual, oral and public health campaigns that Lúrio University conducted in remote regions of Nampula, Cabo Delgado and Niassa. As a researcher, Ferrão interned in Solagral-INRA, Montpellier, France, where he published texts on the management of faunistic resources in sub-Saharan Africa. He also attended courses on WTO and environmental clauses at USP, São Paulo, Brazil, where he wrote about African issues in the NUPRI International Charter Journal.
