Life Story

Ungulani Ba Ka Khosa,name tsonga (ethnic group of southern Mozambique) of Francisco Esau Cossa, was born on 1 August 1957 in Inhaminga, province of Sofala.

Graduated in Law and Teaching (bacharel) of History and Geography, he currently serves as Director of the National Institute of Book and Disco. He was Deputy Director of the National Institute of Cinema and Audiovisual of Mozambique.

During the 1990s he was a chronicler of several national newspapers, actively participating in debates that the second Republic triggered. He co-founded the literary magazine Charrua.

He is a member of the Association of Mozambican Writers, currently serving as Secretary-General. Gazeta Prize for Narrative Fiction, 1988; National Literature Award, 1991; Honor of the CPLP- Community of Portuguese-speaking Countries in 2003; José Craveirinha Award, in 2007; and with Ualalapi, the debut work, is on the list of the 100 best African authors of the twentieth century.

He is also the author of Orgia dos Mados (1990): Stories of Love and Amazing (1993); The Survivors of the Night (2005), José Craveirinha Award; Choriro (2009), The King Mocho, Infant-Young History (2012); and Among the Silent Memories (2013), BCI Award, best book of the year 2013.
