The education sector and partners seek strategies to solve the problem of the lack of classrooms.
The Provincial Director of Human Education and Development in Gaza, Athanasio Cossa, says that the province needs 1,700 classrooms in order to create decent conditions for students studying abroad and others in precarious rooms.
Athanasio Cossa believes that the government alone cannot bring solutions, hence that the sector he directs has privileged partnerships, with a view to designing a strategy to address the lack of classrooms.
In this sense, last week, the sector that heads held meetings with partners, in which they undertook to support, through the provision of funds for the construction of classrooms, as well as to meet other needs.
The Basic Education Development Unit (UDEBA – LAB), one of the focal points of the Education for All Movement, held, within the framework of the week of "Education for All", which is held annually throughout the world, a reflection meeting with the Government, as the main objective of discussing the problems facing the education sector and seeking possible solutions.
According to the executive director of UDEBA –LAB, Januário de Sousa, during the meeting, it was settled that governments should increase the education budget in order to avoid embarrassment. As is the case of outdoor rooms.
Speaking to "News", Sousa indicated that the outdoor rooms contribute to the poor performance of the students, as they do not have the necessary concentration.
" We recognise that the government has been making efforts in the field of education, but the problems and challenges are still enormous," he said, adding that, when compared to 15 years ago, significant improvements may have been seen.
At the time, Januário de Sousa appealed to civil society to embrace the cause of education, justifying that this task is not just for the government.
